Filtering

Filtering will allow you to fine tune the displayed output of your logs.
There are several types of filters available which can be used seperately or together.

Text Filters

Text filters allow you to filter the processing of your log based on alphanumeric (numbers and letters) text.

Incl Txt - Include Text
Summary: Log entries processed MUST include this text
Only log entries containing the alphanumeric text contained here will be processed. Any log entries that do not contain this text will be skipped and not used in results. The checkbox must be selected to activate Incl Text filtering

Excl Txt - Exclude Text
Summary: Log entries containing this text will NOT be processed
Any log entries containing the alphanumeric text contained here will NOT be processed. Only log entries that do NOT contain this text will be processed and used in results. The checkbox must be selected to activate Excl Text filtering

Hit Filters

When a visitor arrives at your site, InterTracker assigns them a unique identifier which is used to determine whether the visitor is a New Hit, a Return Hit or a Navigational Hit.
Click here for more info on Visitor ID's

If neither New or Return Hits are selected, ALL hits will be processed

New Hits
Summary: Only New visitors will be processed

By selecting the New Hit checkbox, only brand new visitors to your site will be processed.
In effect, this filter will skip log entries of users navigating through your site and only show their first hit
This is useful in showing the last 20 visitors for example. If New Hits is not selected, the last 20 hits could be from a single visitor navigating through your site. With New Hits selected the last 20 hits will be from 20 different visitors.

Return Hits
Summary: Only Return visitors will be processed

By selecting the Return Hit checkbox, only returning visitors to your site will be processed.
In effect, this filter will only display visitors who are returning to your website. This information is useful in identifying how many visitors liked your site enough to return.
If the 'Referrer' is displayed as NA, it is likely that the visitor has bookmarked your site and has gone directly to your site from their 'Bookmarks' or 'Favorites'

Time/Date Filter

The Time Filter allows you process your logs within a specific time period.
Only log entries between the Start Time and the End Time will be processed.
The Time Filter checkbox must be selected for to activate Time Filtering.
If the End time is less than the Start time, InterTracker will automatically set the End time to 24 hours after the Start time.

Example

  1. Start Time is set to 00:00 3 Aug 2003 (12am Aug 3rd 2003)
  2. End Time is set to 00:00 10 Aug 2003 (Midnight Aug 9th 2003)
  3. Select Time Filter checkbox
Only log entries for the week 3rd August - 9th August will be processed.
    Therefore:
  • Click 'Referrers' = Top 250 Referrers for 3rd Aug to 9th Aug
  • Click 'Search Terms' = Top 100 Search Terms for 3rd Aug to 9th Aug
  • Click 'Last 20 Hits' + 'Display' = Last 20 hits received for 3rd Aug to 9th Aug (in reverse order ie..last hit first from midnight 9th Aug)

Start Time/Date (Left)
Summary: Log entries before this time/date will not be processed.

End Time/Date (Right)
Summary: Log entries after this time/date will not be processed.
